Five Ideas for a Summer Adventure in Liberty

Sunshine and summertime are here to stay, and some of your best summer adventures may be closer than you think.


Here are five ideas to enjoy Liberty’s outdoors this summer.

Picnic at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary

This 100-acre nature sanctuary is packed with wildlife and four miles of hiking trails, making way for adventure and exploration for visitors of all ages. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy after one of the many activities the sanctuary has to offer:

  • Birdwatching
  • Geocaching
  • Hiking
  • Sketching or photographing endless plant and animal life

Visit and tour the nature center to discover world-class exhibits, such as:

  • Live animal exhibits
  • Real fossil displays
  • A bird feeding station

Enjoy A Liberty Parks & Rec Summer Camp

Liberty Parks & Rec’s half-day enrichment and full-day camps are a good option for keeping your kids entertained this summer. There's still time to register for the following:

  • KC Chess Club
  • Buddy Pegs Adventure Bike
  • Camp Nerf
  • Summer Splash
  • 4-H Summer Send-Off

Most camps are designed for kids between the ages of 5 and 14 and cost between $30 - $40 per day, depending on the camp you choose.

Visit the Dog Park at Stocksdale Park

Soak up the dog days of summer by visiting the Liberty Dog Park. Located within Stocksdale park, let your pup explore a spacious three-acre, fully fenced area with an agility obstacle course. They also offer amenities for the human friends, like benches and a water fountain.

Play the Bad Rock Creek Disc Golf Course

This 18-hole disc golf course is located at Stocksdale Park and was designed with players of all skill levels in mind, from beginner through advanced and even pro, and is one of the top rated courses in the Kansas City metro area. 

This course mixes short and medium holes along with technical wooded holes along with a few holes with waterplay. This is an excellent way to enjoy one of Liberty’s most spacious parks and learn a new hobby.

Disc Golf

Cool Off at the Ruth Moore Park Splash Pad

This large splash pad features:

  • 44 jets
  • Eight water features
  • Multi-jet circular curtain
  • Ten-foot jet sprays

This park is a safe way for children of all ages to cool off this summer and was designed with each age in mind. Access to the spray ground is free and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., May 28 - Sept. 5.
